Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the company name Chico Metal Finishing, Inc. when you are located in Oroville?
Twenty two years ago we intended to open our operation in Chico, we had leased a building, incorporated, and put together a lot of the material to run a business using the name Chico Metal Finishing, Inc.. At the eleventh hour we could not get the required approval from the city of Chico to commence operations. On the recommendation of a friend we came over to Oroville and found our current location and a much more business friendly atmosphere. Our customers are generally serviced by our route trucks and we try to make it feel like we are no further away than your back door.
How large of a part can you anodize?
The limiting factor becomes the size of our rinse tanks which are 26"Wx 24"Wx30"D. Typically we find that about 28" long is the limit for any production work however we can get pretty creative with small quantity and one off parts, particularly in clear anodize and hard anodize.
How large of a part can you powder coat?
The limiting factor becomes the oven size which is 94"Wx74"Tx96"D. We can handle up to 126" by going into the oven corner to corner. Parts that are larger than 48" require hand cleaning as our blasting cabinet is 48"W.
What is bright anodize and can you do it?
The anodize film is dependant on the mechanical finish it is applied onto. If the part is brightly polished the anodize will appear bright and reflective, almost translucent in some of the more vibrant colors. We do not provide mechanical polishing services but do work with several very reputable local polishers. The old chemical brite dip formulas are not available locally and are cost prohibitive to put in due to the OSHA and EPA regulations.
How hot can I get my powder coated parts?
Typically powder coated parts will discolor and start to fail at 450F. The powder coating is a cured plastic coating on a metal substrate and is oven cured at 350F to 400F. It is not intended as a high temperature coating.
